DIY : Coffee Scrub

I've seen this being featured in a local morning show here in Manila. They even have a model/host guest who shared this piece of "vanity" for women and men alike. She does this during weekends since that's the only time that she has a lot of time to spare to do this and I agree with her. Weekend is the perfect time to pamper and prettify yourself.

No need to go to a luxury spa just to enjoy a relaxing coffee scrub. Coffee is known for its anti-oxidant properties. Aside from that, it lessens the appearance of cellulite in your skin! Amazing! That very reason alone made me decide to make my own coffee scrub.

Ingredients:
* coffee grounds (you can get this for free in coffee shops) - initially I always get a bag of this coffee grounds as a fertilizer for our plants but now, I have another reason to maximize its worth.

* virgin coconut oil - obviously it will hurt in your skin if you will just scrub away the coffee grounds. You will need this to mix it with coffee for moisturizing your skin.I bought one in Mercury Drug Store for Php 250+.

Procedure:
Just mix the VCO and coffee grounds.Plain and simple. You just have to estimate the amount of coffee grounds and oil that you will need for your body scrub. You will be surprise how a small amount can go a long way.

All you have to do is scrub the mixture into your body and leave it for 5 minutes. If it's more than 5 minutes, you may find yourself rinsing furiously to remove the coffee stain which is a bit challenging.

I normally do this during Sunday since it takes a lot of time compared to jumping in to the shower and taking a bath. Last Sunday it was my second time to do a coffee scrub on my body. Since there's a virgin coconut oil present, once you've rinsed the scrub you will notice how your skin is moisturize! I love it! So smooth and soft.

Warning: It can be messy once you're applying the scrub on your body as well as when you're rinsing it off.

I only do the scrub once a week so as not to irritate my skin from scrubbing.

Magnum by Selecta

I never heard of this until 2 weeks ago one of my officemate is looking for this food in 7-11. She told me that a lot of celebritiesare tweeting about this ice cream bar by Selecta. I got curious as well and since I'm craving for something sweet, together we searched the convenience store for Magnum. We were not disappointed except when we have to pay for our purchases...Php 60 per piece for an ice cream bar?! Whoah!

So I told myself that I should've get what I paid for. In short, I have high expectations on Magnum. After all, I'll just add Php 100 and I'll get a 1L of ice cream.

Magnum Almond

At first bite, the chocolate coating reminds me of Cadbury's chocolate. It tastes the same. My officemate told me that it's belgian chocolate probably one of the reasons why it's quite pricey compared to the popsicles and drumsticks that I'm used to.

Belgian Chocolate with Almond Nuts

The ice cream bar itself (the white part) definitely is vanilla flavor. The difference is that it's more milky in taste. Well on my opinion, I can taste the milk and I know that ingredients used in making the ice cream bar is not sacrificed.

Will I purchase again? If I'm in the mood to buy one...hehehehe. I'm not really a big fan of ice cream and chocolates so I can survive a week or a month without eating one. On the other hand, my husband will definitely love this! He is a big fan of chocolates. If Selecta will come up with another flavor for Magnum, I'll suggest to make the ice cream bar, strawberry flavored. Hubby will be ecstatic as he loves the most the strawberry-chocolate flavor.

Must Love Dogs

I'm not sure if all of you saw this story in Facebook. It's about a pitbull dog in the Philippines saving 2 women but it's gone viral since two days ago (I think).

GOOD DOG DOWN
Four-year-old "Chief", an American Pit Bull Terrier, dashed in front of a venomous snake which was poised to strike at 87-year-old Liberata la Victoria and her granddaughter Maria Victoria. Shielding the women from the attack, Chief saved them but died minutes later from the snake's bite.

In Facebook, it didn't say what year this incident happened but turns out it was published last 2007 from this website - http://dogsinthenews.com/stories/070301a.php. So it's been 5 years since Chief done a heroic deed that is truly admirable and made us realized that loyalty is one of the best traits of dogs especially if they are loved. Cesar Milan's always says in his show Dog Whisperer, dogs understands us through the energy that we released from our body. Not because they understand what we are saying.

Anyways, let me share the whole story adapted from the link I mentioned above...

BARANGAY LAPASAN (Philippines)
Mar 1, 2007

The children in the Fronteras household refer to their dog as "kuya" ("big brother"), and he certainly proved it on the day he sacrificed his life to protect the family.
On Monday, Feb. 12 at around 2 p.m., "Chief", an American Pit Bull Terrier, rescued Liberata la Victoria, 87, and her granddaughter Maria Victoria Fronteras from a deadly cobra which had entered their house through an opening in the kitchen.
Liberata la Victoria and Chief had been watching TV on the sofa when suddenly Chief jumped up and alerted her to the presence of a cobra less than 10 feet away. Maria Victoria rushed in and pulled her grandmother into a separate room, hoping the snake would leave.
But when Maria Victoria later emerged from the room, she was terrified to find the cobra poised about two feet away. Equally startled, the cobra expanded its hood and appeared to be spitting venom as it prepared to strike.
"The snake was in front of us, maneuvering a deadly attack," says Maria Victoria. "I screamed out loud to ask for help."
That's when from "out of nowhere", Chief dashed between the cobra and the two women, using himself as a shield against the cobra's attacks. Chief then seized the cobra by the neck and slammed it into the floor, killing it.

But for Chief it was a Pyrrhic victory. In the struggle, he sustained a fatal bite to the jaw, and moments later he began gasping for breath and collapsed. The family sought the help of a veterinarian, but they were told that nothing could be done. According to the vet, the bite was too close to Chief's brain, and the venom had already spread. Maria Victoria called her husband Marlone who, stunned by the news, rushed home immediately.
Ian de la Rama, a friend of the family, says it was less than 30 minutes from the time Chief had been bitten that he "went wobbly and lost control of his organs," 2 urinating and defecating uncontrollably. Yet he still kept clinging to life.
It wasn't until Marlone arrived that Chief finally let go.
Ian de la Rama describes, "Chief gave his two deep breaths and died. He was fighting and saving his last ounces of breath to see a glimpse of his master for the last two seconds of his life."

Ian adds that the last thing Chief did as he gazed up at Marlone was wag his tail.

MIA....No More!

Ahoy everyone! I can't remember how many times I've apologized for not blogging that much. February is one heck of a month for me. It's a mixed of happy, sad, worry and thankful memories all roll into 29 days!

For those who know me personally and who can see my FB profile, my father was hospitalized due to an almost heart attack. What seems to be a typical common cold, cough and fever led to some symptoms of a heart attack. Good thing that my mother decided to bring him to the hospital right on time. It could've been worst if they ignore the obvious seriousness of his health condition.

Processing health documents, working full-time and part-time kept me busy these past few days so Ican't blog that much but good news! My father is A-ok to go home today so our family can heave a bigh sigh of relief.

I've learned a lot of things specifically in processing documents in Philhealth. No worries, I'm going to share you my experience and the things I've learned.

For now, I'm going to do a few household chores before going out to visit my parent's house.

Enjoy the weekend and hope you still drop my blog regardless of not updating it that much as I used to.
