Musings

While the Northern America celebrates today the Thanksgiving, here in Manila we are celebrating the National Day of Mourning for those massacre victims in Maguindanao.

Being the democratic that we are who would've thought that some provinces in the country are being ruled by guns, arm men and political power.

I was saddened to hear the story and watched the footage shown in the news everyday about this tragedy. Even the innocent civilians who have nothing to do with politics and rivalry drama of the two families will be caught in this incident. Media men were slayed whose work is to bring news to the people. 57 deaths in one day is not normal.

As the Americans give thanks to all the blessings and the year that had passed in their lives, we on the other hand are praying and hoping for justice be served for the victims.

Happy Thanksgiving

To all my blogger friends, acquaintances, colleagues and close friends in the USA, I want to greet you all a...

Enjoy the long weekend and the festivity!

MST Unite in Mesa

I completely forgot to post some of our pictures taken last November 6 for an advance birthday celebration of our former PM, Ms. Joy . It was also served as a reunion of our old team back then.

I was expecting that majority will attend because they confirmed but some changed their minds the last minute....too bad.

Our reunion dinner was held in the function room of Mesa restaurant located in Greenbelt 5.

2nd Round

I watched the New Moon movie last Friday with the husband! I so love the CGI effects especially with the wolves scene. They remind me of Siberian Huskies in different shades that got bigger :) I love it! Even the husband enjoys watching the film ;)

If you will review the total aspect of the movie, it's much better compared to Twilight though there are some flaws that I saw in the film. Nobody's perfect as they say...

(1) The face makeup of Alice is so obvious since her neck is a different shade (that is on the later part of the film). I like her makeup in Twilight to be honest.
(2) Robert Pattinson's face in the film is so serious and he always deliver his lines in a monotone way. I wonder what's wrong with him...
(3) I was expecting that the Volturi will be more daunting and sinister...ahahahaha!

Regardless, I want to see the New Moon again for the 2nd time since the G4 Cinema 2 has some minor technical problems when the movie was showing. Audio modulation and jumping scenes, it sucks! I heart seeing the wolves again :)

P.S. The ending left me hanging for Eclipse! The director surely knows how to keep the audience and fans anticipating for the next movie sequel. Good thing it will be a short wait for us to get the 3rd dose of vampires, wolves and humans. Third movie entitled Eclipse is set to be release on June next year.

This is it

I'm not going to babble about the movie of MJ since I didn't watch it so I have nothing to share.

I'm talking about the much anticipated sequel of Twilight movie which is New Moon. Finally after waiting for a year it's going to be shown in movie theaters here in Manila. Good thing I was able to buy 2 tickets for the husband and me in Glorietta 4. I was hoping to get the tickets in Greenbelt 3 but to my surprised and dismay the tickets for this weekend are sold out! Bummer!

Regardless that didn't dampen my spirit. I believe in the saying "When there's a will, there's a way" and I have the will to watch the movie today, not tomorrow or Sunday but TODAY. So even the available tickets are set for 11:30pm showing I didn't hesitate to purchase it.

Sorry, obviously I'm one of those fans of Twilight. I'm not really a die-hard fan compared to the peeps in the US but still I'm a fan.

Dining Tables

My aunt is trying her luck in Singapore to land a job. She was working before in Bahrain but decided to gamble in Asia since she wants to be closer to Manila.

One of her plans once she got a job is to slowly renovate her house in Cavite. She already accomplished fixing the ceiling and some lightning fixtures when she was in the Middle East. Now her next step is to make the living room spacious and replace the Dining Tables situated in front of the house and on the kitchen.

Maybe I should buy the Real Living book that I saw in one of the blogs and gave it to her for ideas. I get really excited when the topic is about home fixings and renovations.

Big Blue

It was the title of a documentary film from National Geographic Channel for the Blue Whale which is considered to be the largest animal on Earth. They are endangered specie with only 10,000 population on the whole world.

This exhibit was featured in local evening news last Tuesday and the husband and I were in awe when we saw the replica of a 2 month-old female Blue Whale. National Geographic made it possible for us to see this replica which are made of fiber optical glass (if I'm not mistaken) to raise awareness about marine preservation.

When I saw the TV footage I knew the exact mall where the replica is displayed. Yesterday I went to Glorietta 5 and saw it myself, she is a beauty.

The replica is really big....and it's only 2 months old!

I wonder how huge a Blue Whale can be if it's 1 year old...

I'm not sure on how long they will display the Blue Whale in Glorietta 5 but no worries apart from that mall, the replica will also be displayed in other malls until February of next year. Sorry I was not able to take a note of the dates and the malls.

Land Down Under

The phrase simply describes Australia where it is inhibited by kangaroos and koala bears. Also the thing that comes to my mind about that phrase is Nicole Kidman and Hugh Jackman both famous in Hollywood and has Australian nationality.

I hope to see the famous Sydney Opera House where me and hubby can stay in the cheapest Sydney Hotels and get souvenirs from the Rocks Market.

For example Melbourne streets have a stream of jazz bars for night time peeps. Shoppers can indulge on the funky boutiques along Brunswick Street in case you want to bag a bargain on branded items. These two alone will surely entice tourists to book to Melbourne Hotels and experience all the fun and adventure it has to offer.

I have this fantasy where I was doing wall climbing indoor or outdoor. I haven't tried it personally but I would love to do it next year. Once I'm all pump up for that kind of athletic activity then I can definitely strut my stuff in rock climbing at the Kangaroo Point Cliffs the followed by kayaking in Moreton Island. I'm not sure though if the husband will like that idea but I guess he will probably say that it's better if he stay inside the comfort of one of the Brisbane Hotels.

Last but not the least will be cruising in the Swan River located in Perth. They offer different kinds of cruising which are all lovely and definitely a must try for a travel junkie. I wonder if there are Perth Hotels on that area so you can enjoy the river waters although there are 63 beaches on tranquil, car-free Rottnest Island. That's a lot!

I guess this Australian adventure will be possible if we are living in that country. Maybe I can ask my godmother to petition us so we can migrate! I wish.

My Current Diet

After being stuck in a hospital bed for 2 days I religiously follow my gastroenteritis advice - no oily and dairy products for the time being. I'm planning to follow this diet until November ends just to make sure that my stomach and intestines are back to their old self.

It was tough eating foods that don’t require oil. I always end up eating foods that are boiled and steamed - siomai, siopao, corn, carrots, egg, hotdog and instant noodles. Sigh! I can't eat burgers or fries and I'm totally missing them.

Btw, I forgot to mention that we only tried the Blood Type O Diet for a week after that we switch back into eating pork...ahahahaha! I guess it all boils down to having a balanced diet. That is meat, vegetables and fruits right?

I am Loving

You Are the Loving One in Your Family

You truly love everyone in your family, and you care about them deeply. Your family is your number one priority in your life.

You feel protective of your family and you often fret about them. If someone in your family is having a hard time, then you're having a hard time too.

You will always put your family first, even if your friendships or career suffer. There's no way your family could ask too much of you.

You are naturally a healer and a nurturer. Even if you aren't a mom, you tend to take on the mothering role in your family.

On Real Properties

For the past months my sister and my mom are looking for a real estate property where they can move-in next year. There are a lot of things to consider and different opinions from my sister and parents hence it's taking them awhile to decide which is going to be the house for them. My sister wants to have a place of their own and doesn't want the idea of renting a house till forever thus she's focused to get a place once she's back for good in Manila. Real Property Management won't be much of help since it's more of a service for rental properties and tenants though I've heard that they are the best management company to boot. If only they sell properties for keeps.

I hope that this issue with house hunting will be finalize on December once my sister is home for 2 weeks vacation.

Hospitalized (Part 2)

Continuation....

Hubby and I have no idea on how long we will be staying in the hospital so we assumed that we will be there until the weekend so that's the clothes that we bring together with our toiletries. We took a cab and luckily there are no heavy traffics along the way.

We arrived in Medical City's ER before 9pm. I asked the guard for the Intellicare (HMO) desk to fill out a form after which I was asked by the nurse for any allergic reactions to food and medicines to which I reply none.

Next, I was asked for my height and weight. I didn't know my exact weight at that time so the nurse led me to their digital weighing scale and tada! I only weighed 41.7 kilos (91.74 lbs)! Geeeze!

After the weighing I was ushered to a vacant bed in the ER while the nurses process my papers. After 20 minutes a doctor came who happens to be one of the resident doctors. I told her the history and the advice of Dr. Eustaquio that I will be admitted in the hospital. Prior to that, my gastro doctor asked me to tell the resident nurse or doctor who will checked one me to call him after they met me. So after talking to me the resident doctor called on Dr. Eustaquio for further instructions. We waited for another 30 minutes before they told me that I will be admitted. Some papers were asked to be signed by me while the husband is busy processing my papers in Intellicare for my room.

After another 30 minutes or so the nurse came this time with an IV insertion and bag of fluid. This is one of the few things I don't like in a hospital. The nurse advises me not to look at my hand while she inserted the needle for the IV which is a good thing since I can feel the pain of the needle on my vein. Ouch!

It was nearing 12 midnight when I finally wheeled into my room located on the 11th floor near the nurse station.
These photos were taken on Thursday morning. The right picture shows the door of our room while the other door (the one with an air vent at the bottom) leads to the bathroom.

Our view in my room - Ortigas Business District =)

Me on the bed while Hubby is playing Warcraft on the laptop =P

Early Thursday morning (Nov 12) at 5am a nurse came to get another sample of my blood to check the electrolytes, potassium and white blood cell count. Based from the results they will know if there are other reasons for my gastroenteritis.

There are three doctors who are visiting me during my confinement - Dr. Eustaquio and two female who are working under him. According to my gastro doctor there are three of us who got admitted in the hospital due to gastroneteritis, all of us are his patients. He told me not to worry since it will only take me a day or two for the IV medication and I can go home ;)

After his visit at 8:45am a staff from Intellicare came to me to discuss the policy of Intellicare in order to shoulder my hospital expenses. Turns out I have to process first my Philhealth before Intellicare. So hurriedly I called our HR department to get the requirements needed. Thankfully they have all of it and my friend/colleague will bring it to me the next day :)

Three times a day, the nurse will check on me for my temperature, medicine and blood pressure. Also, they will ask me about my poop. My meals are following a diet that is strictly non-oily and non-dairy food as per the doctor's advised. Up to now I still follow this diet.

Evening came and the female doctor checked on me for the results of my blood test. Surprisingly all the results are normal except for potassium which is a little low than normal. She encouraged me to eat foods rich in potassium like apples and bananas. I'm not a big fan of apples so I'll just settle for bananas :) My white blood cell count is normal (no idea on how did it happened).

It was pretty cold in our room during night time so I asked the husband to turn off the AC. Both of us slept early.

Friday came and this time the weather is a little cloudy. Again the nurse made her usual round. At 8:45am Dr. Eustaquio is in my room to check on me with the two female doctors. I was feeling better and normal on that day. No churning noises on my stomach. The doctor pressed my stomach to see if there is anything unusual that he can feel. Well, he didn't find any thus he gave me the go signal to go home. I requested for a medical certificate before he left my room.

After two hours my friend from work came to visit me. He actually took a leave since he will have his checkup for his cough. He brought the Philhealth papers needed for the billing. I owe him a lot :) Apart from the papers he gave a card signed by my other colleagues. I was touched for their thoughtful gesture. After a few minutes of talking my friend have to go to schedule an appointment for a pulmonologist.

Lunch time a male nurse came to remove my IV. Yey! It was hard to move around with a bag of fluid that the husband have to carry everytime I have to go to the bathroom. There's no pain when the IV was removed and we told the nurse that the doctor has given us the discharge order. We decided to leave the hospital in the afternoon. After an hour I took a bath and started fixing our things. I missed moving and keeping myself busy...hehehehe. Around 4pm hubby started processing my Philhealth and Intellicare papers for the bill. Thank you for insurances and we didn't have to pay anything.

We left the hospital at 5pm. Hello outside world!

P.S. I didn't know that Medical City lets their patients bring home the pillow used during their stay. Normally it's just the medical kit that were brought home =D

Hospitalized (Part 1)

The last time I was confined in a hospital was during the 1980s. My maternal grandmother will tell me stories on how fragile I was when I was a young child that I always end up in a hospital.

As years gone by I'm proud to say that my health improved! No hospital admissions until last week.

I was able to report for office last Monday (Nov. 9) but due to the erratic behavior of my stomach I decided to make a visit to a gastroenterologist and my gynecologist as well. I know that my case is not the common LBM because I've experienced going to the bathroom twice since November 5. My instinct tells me there's something wrong in the picture.

So Tuesday (Nov. 10) the husband and I went to Medical City. The plan was to make a follow-up checkup to my OB before going to the gastro doctor. Unfortunately my OB is not available and she's attending a conference. Her secretary said that she will be back on Thursday (Nov. 12). I guess fate wanted me to really seek the help of a gastro so that's what my hubby and I did. Intellicare staff directed us to Dr. Eustaquio.

We went to his office at 11:30am. That day, he had a lot of patients before us so we have to wait for our turn. Luckily, the churning of my stomach is bearable so going to the restroom is not needed (I went to the bathroom twice early in the morning that day). The doctor welcomed us warmly. He asked me the basic questions like when did it start? how do you feel? what are the foods that you ate?, etc. He asked me to lie down on the bed(?) on his office then using his stethoscope he checks my breathing, heart rate and lastly the sounds in my stomach. He confirmed that my stomach is making a rampage sound...ahahahaha! He prescribed me a medicine to pacify my tummy which I have to take 3 times a day before each meal and requested for three lab tests - CBC, urinalysis and stool test. I was able to accomplish the first two tests during that day but I'm having trouble with the last one. I'm not comfortable using the hospital's restroom thus I opted to submit my sample the following day (Wednesday).

Nov 11 Wednesday I went alone this time to Medical City as I have to be there early to submit my feces sample. I arrived in the hospital at 8:05am and waited patiently for 3.5 hours so I can get all the results. I spent most of my time lounging in the Ambulatory Services waiting area watching HBO =P

By 11:20am I went to the Releasing Counter for Lab Tests and it was a relief that all the 3 test results are there. I hurriedly went to Dr. Eustaquio's office for his evaluation. My urine is normal while my white blood cell count is a little bit over from normal. He explained that it maybe due to stress or infection. For the feces/stool as expected from someone who has an LBM or gastroenteritis that's what it is. No bacteria or whatsoever (which is a good thing). So he asked me how am I feeling that time. Honestly I feel okay. My stomach is not acting up like a brat. So the doctor told me to continue the medicine he prescribed and if anything comes up I can call him or send him a SMS. He gave me his mobile number. It was 12 noon so I decided to call my manager and tell her that I'm having a follow-up checkup and will be back in the office tomorrow. After the call I went home since the husband is waiting for me.

At home the husband just asked me about the things that happened to me on the hospital - the result and the evaluation of the doctor. While his busy playing games and I watching TV my stomach started to make growling noise. Instinctively I got up and have to go to the bathroom. That was my 2nd time to poop (pardon for the word). After an hour my stomach throws another tantrum and again I have to go to back to the CR. Another hour (or so) passed and my stomach is churning again. That will be the 4th time that I have to go to the CR.

After the to and fro scenario, I decided to call my gastro doctor about my situation. I told him that I poop 4 times and it's not even 6pm! He advised me to have myself admitted to the hospital for the IV fluid treatment. He explained that it will be better if I was in a hospital where they can restore the loss fluids in my body than by staying at home apart from the fact that they can monitor me much easier. I relay this info to hubby and we started to fix the things we will need for our temporary stay in a hospital room.

(To be continued).....

Work, work, work

After being away in the office for 4 days I expect that work will surely keep me busy when I get back. Good thing I already set my mind about it...hehehe.

I'm sure your all waiting for my story on how in the world I ended up in a hospital for 2 days. Patience for the time being as I have to do my work first. As soon as I'm done with the tasks for the day, I will plunge into story-telling :)

Still Here

Hello everyone! I'm sure you're all wondering where I have been since there are no updates on my blog for 4 days! Which is very unusual if you know me.

Well, last Tuesday and Wednesday I have been busy having a checkup for my tummy. Nope, I'm not pregnant but turns out I have an acute gastroenteritis. Then Wednesday night I was admitted to the hospital for confinement until yesterday.

The gastroenterologist who diagnosed me said that it will be better if I stay in the hospital for the supply of IV to keep me nourish and to prevent further loss of nutrients and fluids in my body.

I will tell you all the detailed story on Monday with some pictures taken inside my room in Medical City :)

For the time being, I just made my presence felt for all you bloggers and friends who've been religiously visiting my blog.

I have a lot to catch up that's for sure! ;)

Collectibles

Last Friday as I was buying myself a breakfast meal in Mcdo, the crew asked me if I want to add Php 25 so I can have the limited edition of Coca-Cola contour glass collection.

I remembered seeing this glass in Anton's blog and that's when it hit me. I hurriedly said YES and here's my first glass:

Of course I decided to get the color Blue first (my favorite color!)...hehehehe. There are five other colors namely - Lime, Green, Violet, Pink and Charcoal. This collectible glass will run until November 31, 2009 in McDonald's store nationwide (Philippines to be exact).

Next color on my list will be Lime for hubby :) Then the rest will follow ;)

Re-arranged

I planned the things that I will be doing for the weekend but not all of them fell into place as I expected...

First, we were not able to go to the OB's clinic for the follow-up checkup since I came home late from our reunion dinner. It was nearing 2am when I got home. Good thing a friend/neighbor is present to accompany me or else the husband will be really furious. With that I woke up late and we didn't push through the checkup. Sigh! The good side was I got to sleep a lot.

Second, I was not able to visit my parent's house since I'm crunching the time last Saturday. I know it was supposed to be Sunday but since I will be having my first fitting for the cocktail dress on a seamstress which is near to my parent's house I decided to take a pit stop after which didn't materialized. I arrived in the seamstress shop around 3:30pm and left at 5pm. It was tough finding transportation on the way out of their village. I was hoping to drop by after that but then I have to pick-up something in a mall before 7pm I decided to give up the visiting and saved it for this coming weekend instead.

Other than that I was able to meet-up with my high school friends for about 1.5-2 hours then hear mass last Sunday. Unexpected event was the husband and I have to got to the hospital to visit a friend who had a miscarriage =( It was 8:30pm yesterday when we arrived. It was supposed to be their first child and it was gone...I feel sad for her but like I always say to myself when things didn't turned out the way I expect them to be, "Everything happens for a reason".

I just hope that her faith didn't waver by that incident.

Up Ahead

It's Friday and I'm thankful that I can sleep tomorrow longer. For the past 2 days I always wake up at 4am for some bizarre reason and I ended up yawning all throughout the afternoon here in the office.

Anyways, later tonight I will be having a reunion dinner with my former colleagues. We will also be celebrating in advance the birthday of our PM back then, she's the one who will treat us with a hearty meal =)

For sure loads of pictures will pour and I will post them hopefully this weekend otherwise it will be on Monday.

FAST FORWARD....
Tomorrow I will be going back to the hospital for my follow-up checkup. I was given an instruction by my OB to come back to her office after 6 months for another pap smear. Good thing her clinic hours starts at 10am.

On Sunday I will probably take a visit to my parent's house and then meet-up with my two high school friends in the mall. Ooops, I completely forgot that I have an appointment for my cocktail dress fitting...Hmmm.. Maybe I can meet my high school friends in the mall on Saturday instead of Sunday. There! Schedule arranged ;)

Looks like I will be a little bit busy....

I was trying to convince the husband since our wedding anniversary to spend our Christmas or New Year outside our home(apartment). So far I have no luck. I'll just give it some time and then I will bug him again about this....ahahahaha!

Bed Weather

For the past couple of days it's been a little cloudy with drizzle of rain. It's the kind of weather you would want to snug back into bed and doze off to Dreamland.

As of the moment, I'm feeling really sleepy. I don't know the reason why I woke up today at 4am! And I couldn't get back to sleep. At least my consolation is that I can go home early I will be reunited to my (our) bed soon.

Apart from the gloomy weather here in Manila or should I say the whole Philippines, we are gradually experiencing the Christmas air This will help me save a lot on electricity bills and our AC will be taking a break for the time being.

Yawn!

73rd

That is my maternal grandmother's age when she celebrated her birthday last October 30. Hubby and I went there for the occasion and also to make the most of the long weekend.

We didn't have a lot of food since we don't have guests. Just a small celebration to put a smile on her face.

This is me with my "lola" (grandmother)

Happy Birthday to you!
I wish you good health and
many more birthday to come for us to celebrate!

Trivia:
I grew up with her from the time I was a baby up to 5 or 6 years of age so I was very close to her. She's my ally against my parents during my childhood years...ahahahaha! The perks of being the first and eldest grandchild ;)

Sure Seats

I was checking the viewing schedule of New Moon in 3 different Ayala Malls Cinemas in Makati. Just like last year when Hubby and I watched Twilight I also made a reservation through this site.

This time I was thinking of watching the movie with some friends but we have to coordinate first the time and the cinema where we will be watching before I can purchase our ticket. The pros of buying the ticket ahead is that you will get a seat guaranteed and you don't have to wait for a long line.

The cons is that the price of the ticket is a little pricey but who cares?! I'm sure the money that I've paid for the ticket will be worth it just by watching the trailers of the movie. Only a few more days to go! ;)

Happy Halloween!

You Are Traditional on Halloween

Halloween is all about the things you've loved since you were a kid. It's a holiday of big traditions for you.

You love carving pumpkins, eating candied apples, trick-or-treaters, and old horror movies.

You would never be found dressing up as the latest celebrity. You're much more likely to go for an old standby like witch or vampire.

Halloween has a lot of history for you, and you're not about to throw it all away for the latest Halloween trend!
