Reality and Realty

It was a dream of my parents to have our own home. That was my promise to them but since I got married I can't do it anymore and I feel bad for that broken promise. Thankfully I have a sister who is willing to make that broken promise a reality!

She was assigned by their company for a project in China which will last for a year. That means that the Fluor office in China will be giving them the salary and allowances which is higher compared to their monthly earnings here in Manila. She's decided to look for a lot in Cavite as a first step in having a home that my parents and siblings can enjoy.

So far my parents didn't like the lots that my sister was considering. They want a village where there are lots of people and where they can put up a business. Maybe it will be best for my sister to look for a Realtor like the San Antonio Realtors that can provide a good customer service and excellent quality of work, I'm sure that they can find the perfect lot for my parents. Now the search for a local realtor with those kinds of traits begins now.

Swine Flu

Got this from the email of our company's HR manager for awareness.

Honestly I don't know much about swine flu except for the fact that it's a virus that came from pigs. Right now the spread of the virus is quite alarming. Its spreading in USA, Europe, Mexico, Spain, New Zealand and Australia.

In Asia, South Korea has one case reported for swine flu.

Vista Issue Update

Well, successfully Hubby was able to play the game Diablo II on Vista without crashing the laptop. How?

Well first we uninstall the software then I updated the graphics driver (Intel 945GM) for the lappy (Compag Presario V6000). When it's nearing the end of installation, the wizard will ask you two options for the video: DirectDraw (2d) or 3D. Instead of selecting 3D, you have to select 2D and presto!

That did the trick. We don't have to check all the boxes on the compatibility tab of the game properties. Tomorrow, we will be installing the expansion pack for this game.

Next time, it will be better that Hubby buys a lappy or a desktop for himself that is intended for gaming (that will be his primary purpose anyway). That will thrilled him inside out. Sheesh! Boys will always be boys.

Haven't tried the Warcraft yet. I wonder why Hubby didn't install it since that his "fave game" for who knows how long.

Sin City

Also known as Las Vegas which is known for its luxurious hotel and casinos that every tourist will get hooked into once they set foot on one. Apart from these attractions, singers and magicians grace the hotels by having a show as an additional treat to its visitors.

My aunt was planning to use her Miles points to have a short vacation. I told her that instead of going to Dubai why not try going to Las Vegas instead. After all it has much to offer compared to UAE (no offense to those who are in Dubai). If I were in her shoes, I will try a complete different scenario and make the most out of it. I'm not sure if she took my advice but I hope she did. She won't have to worry about entertainment since she can buy tickets to Las Vegas shows directly online. Oh, I forgot that there's a little issue which is a companion (or a friend) to go with her. She was thinking of a friend who will also be using the Miles point and that friend wanted to go to Dubai instead because it's near and I think the cost of expenses is cheaper. Sigh! Looks like the idea of having a fabulous time in Las Vegas will not materialize...

Wordless Wednesday: Barong

10 Words People Would Use to Describe You

This week's 10 on Tuesday is about what adjectives other people used to describe you or ME rather...

Single Mom

Being one is definitely tough since you have to raise a child on your own what more if you have a lot of children like the Octo-mom who's been the talk of the town last month for all the controversies surrounding her personal life.

I wonder what will be the next issue about her...hmmm...Could it be a headline saying "single mom dating". It will not be a harm for her to try especially she can have the option to filter the selection of a prospect "date" base on the age and location plus she can view the photos, profiles and videos of the men on the account created so that will be easy for her to choose.

If in case she finds a date, it will be a proof for Octo-mom that technology indeed touched her life big time.

Chicken Yakiniku

After watching a cooking episode in a local TV channel here in Manila (that’s a month ago) where the “daddy” cooked Japanese dishes that made me think of trying a simple Japanese dish for a change.

So, I browse through the female discussion board where I’m a member and found an easy recipe. I only have to buy one Japanese sauce and the rest of the ingredients are locally available!

Presenting my very first Japanese dish.....CHICKEN YAKINIKU. Good thing that it's so easy to prepare that I was able to make it on time for Hubby's breakfast earlier.

Ingredients:

100 gms chicken breast fillet cubed
30 gms carrot strips
30 gms green pepper strip
60 ml Yakiniku sauce

Garnish:
15 gms cabbage, thinly sliced
15 gms carrots thinly sliced
1 tbsp thousand island dressing

Procedure:

* Heat pan with oil then add chicken breast fillet.

* After stirring fry the chicken, add green pepper, carrots and Yakiniku sauce.

* For the garnish, just mix all the ingredients. You can put it on top of the Chicken Yakiniku or set it aside on a plate.

~~~~~~~
I bet that this recipe can make it to the Quickfire show!
Hubby's Verdict: 4 out of 5 (not bad for a first timer in Japanese dish)
Home Security
Next month, my maternal grandmother will be going to Batangas to visit her siblings and to celebrate the feast of St. Isidore which happens to be the patron saint of the town. My uncle (brother of my mother) will be planning to go there too since it's been his habit to have his vacation during the feast. My aunt also wanted to go together with her 2 kids and husband but the problem is no one will look after the house in Cavite when they all go.
For the past 5 years, homes in that subdivision are not safe from burglars who can actually rob a house even in broad daylight. My aunt read an article about Home Security Information and installing high-tech gadgets to keep the home safe is not a fool-proof unless people around the community joined hands to do patrol around the area to appease the mind of the people and to keep the burglars off the place which is not happening at the present.
So in order to keep the home safe, my aunt and her family will not be leaving for the province because that's the safest and logical thing to do.
Vanity
I'm not so vain but I make it a point to look at my best when I'm out of the house. Not much makeup but presentable. I still believe in LESS IS MORE.
You Are 63% Vain
You're a little vain, but you also work hard for your good looks.
Just remember, everyone knows you are a total hottie. You don't have to remind them.
Digi-scrapping
I can finally learn how to do it and I can't wait to start on a project! I've already installed Adobe Photoshop CS2 on my laptop and Scrapbook Factory Deluxe version 4.0 where it has templates, accents, papers, embellishments, etc. for digital scrapbooking.
That's why I'll be needing an external HD for this stuff. I don't want to use all the space of my internal HD. For starters I'm going to read the tutorial section of the software then that goes the same for the Photoshop CS2. Will post soon the first project....
Tweeting Celebs
I heard Twitter almost everywhere! Even watching cable entertainment shows , they twitter too!
An acquaintance introduced me to twitter last year and I know that I've created an account but I haven't had a chance to be "active" since it's blocked here in the office.
I might check my account and see what's driving everyone crazy about it that even celebs are hooked on it. Curiosity got the best of me on this twitter topic...hehehe.
Our Vista Issues
The problem with a newly introduced OS is that chances are, old software will not be compatible with it.
I've seen, heard and worked on it before when I was a TSR in Dell Account when Microsoft introduced SP2 for XP. We've got tons of calls about software compatibility and obviously patches from the software manufacturer and Microsoft are needed in order for them to work harmoniously.
Now that's the problem that I have with Vista. No, let me change that statement. Its hubby who's having a big deal about it since the software and games that I played were in there "happy place" with Vista. It's Hubby's fave games that are having a ramble with Vista.
Let me give you an insight of what happened to every game that Hubby wants to install on the laptop:
(1) Warcraft (DOTA) - Lucky for him it was installed without any problems. The only thing is that when you're playing the game, the screen flickers every once in awhile which is annoying him. Hubby told me that the graphics of my lappy has a problem but when I made a research, there's indeed an issue between Warcraft and Vista that I'm not sure if there's a software patch to fix it. The only solution that I found was to set the compatibility of Warcraft to Windows XP mode which I haven't tried yet because of Game # 2.
(2) Devil May Cry 4 - This is the game that corrupted all the files that we have in my lappy including the other software. Good thing that there are no personal files on the hard disk yet. So I have no choice but to launch the restore manager utility in order to reset the laptop in its factory installed state and I have to reinstall the software back again. Hubby didn't install Warcraft for the meantime.
(3) Diablo II - We installed it yesterday and it went through just fine but the problem arises when you're playing the game (same as DOTA but worst). The screen will flicker back and forth to the game and desktop then it will turn black. You know that the game is running since you can hear the sound effects but no video. We tried adjusting the compatibility properties of the game to Windows XP and Windows 2000, setting the colors to 256 and turning off the display themes, etc. to no avail. I made a research for this game on running in Vista and I found this site (http://www.rpgforums.com/forums/software/101246-how-play-diablo-2-windows-vista.html) that has workarounds in order to run Diablo II in Vista.
Obviously, Game #2 is out of the list for good! As for Game #1 and Game #2 we will try the tweaks tried by other gamers (most of them in the US). I just hope that the games will work this time. I don't want my lappy to crash every now and then because of the games. Geeze!
Cryo-Cell
In my previous post, I've shared with you all about the menstrual stem cells which promised a medical innovation for treatment of various diseases. Today let me share with you the Cryo-Cell Cord Blood Banking wherein this time it's the newborn's umbilical cord blood is preserve.
Normally when giving birth, the umbilical cord is being cut by the attending doctor or usually the father of the baby. Of course the cord plays an important role in expectant moms since that's the way that the baby can live inside the womb but we never thought that it can be used outside the womb of the mother and is used to save the lives of babies or when they grow up. This time, males can benefit from this medical advancement. Just like the menstrual stem cells, the umbilical cord blood is preserved in order to used for rebuilding cardiac tissue, spinal cord injuries and reverses the effect of diseases like Parkinsons and multiple sclerosis. In this way, complications are lessen. Not to mention that we don't have to worry spending too much on transplant and different medical tests and procedure to treat our children.
Apart from the fact that such medical breakthrough existed, Cryo-Cell has a special limited offer wherein upon enrollment you will be given a Free Baby Bjorn but the thing is, this offer is available until April 19. In case you're still interested, you can check out the coupon codes which you can used to avail discounts.
Here is a customer testimonial of a satisfied client of Cryo-Cell if your still in doubt:
~~~~~
"My children are the most precious gifts that I will ever have and I want to do everything I can to make sure they are well. While I was pregnant with my first child, I would see articles and ads about cord blood and it bothered me that it was so expensive but what if I one day needed this blood. The reality of having only one chance or it really went in the garbage kept me wondering if I would regret not investing. What if he had cancer or his dad or I were sick, would that blood have been the cure? Through research, I came across Cryo-Cell International, Inc., a company with the most reasonable rates and the assurance of two holding facilities.

When I was pregnant with my second child, we wondered if one bank was enough? Finances were tighter and should we spend the money? Then we realized that his brothers blood might not match for the new baby. The next day, stories were breaking about how Cord blood had saved or changed the lives of children, one cancer, one cerebral palsy. Then we discovered that a friend was diagnosed with non-hodgkins lymphoma. He didn't bank his daughters blood and wished he had. Three years prior, I lost a friend to renal cancer when she was 29. We felt like it was our answer.

We are just beginning to see miracles that this blood can bring. We have two "life insurance policies", that is how we look at it. If anyone in the family gets ill, there is a chance that the blood could save our lives. If we don't use it, then it is there for our son's children."

Sincerely,

mother of Parker and Davis

Quote for the Day

I'm sure some of you might have read this message through SMS or email....

Celebrate being a Woman! Hehehehehe!

Friday Five: Annoyance

For this week's Friday 5, it's all about getting annoyed! Hehehehe....

1. What’s the most annoying sound in the world?
- the sound of grinding teeth (not sure if it's grinding or gritting)

2. Which of other people’s mannerisms do you find very annoying?
- asking questions based on obvious fact or action.
Example: One girl saw her friend eating a sandwich and then she asked her if she already taken a snack without her.

3. What do you do that really annoys others?
- I think being bossy (I tend to do that. Must be the fact that I'm the eldest that's why I can't help it to be like that).

4. In what way has your own behavior recently caused you annoyance?
- biting my nails (it's a habit that I'm trying to stop but I simply can't...arrgh!)

5. Who’s the most annoying person you know?
- let's see, our youngest sister which is normal since she's the youngest and considered the baby of the family....hehehe.

Stop Unsolicited Calls

In the US, people are very busy that most of the time when you call them during day hours you will always hear a voice mail prompting you to leave a message. Or if they are not busy, they are filtering the calls they've been getting that's why some of them requires for you to say your name or the company you represent. Through that the owner of the phone number will either accept or reject your call.

I've been to that situation so many times when I was still working in a call center. I can't blame them since sales and marketing of various companies have been calling people of all sorts for their products. Good thing that I was not a marketing/sales agent because I can't stand the idea of bugging other people offering them different products and discounts plus I'm not fit to be a sales person.

If I were on those people shoes who are receiving unsolicited calls, I will be annoyed and probably end up looking their phone numbers on Caller Wiki and have them banned for good. Just by getting their phone number I can have the information about the caller based on the number used (like the name of the company they represent and the address). The best feature about this service is that they provide an additional info that called as "call details" where it tells you the information of what the call is all about like if it's a scam or soliciting donation.

Let's see if there will be annoying or prank callers who will dare to pull up a stunt! ;)

Absence

I'm keeping up with all the stuff that I missed for yesterday. I was absent due to Dysmenorrhea early in the morning then after which I have to accompany my sister (together with my mother and siblings) to the airport. She's bound to China for work related reason (lucky her!).

Well, all of us are in light spirits when we were in Centennial 2 airport. If your going to ask if anybody cried, the answer is nobody! We don't have any drama like the typical scene you usually see at the airport. Hehehe. We will definitely miss her for sure but I guess the fact that she will be back in Manila every 4 months is already an assurance that we will see her soon. I even joked that when she's back, she will probably have a chinky eye and fair skin....har!har!har!

My sister whose name is Jerilee (Jeri) left me an excel file which has the list of all her dues/payments every month. Apart from that she left me her ATM card, forms and authorization letter. So starting May, I'll be the one who will be in charge of her financial obligations. A bunch of numbers and figures are added on my monthly computation...hehehe. Got to have a calculator handy on our home then.

Music Breakthrough

Recently, I discovered Susan Boyle and she was a product of a reality talent search in UK. Then in America, Carrie Underwood, Kelly Clarkson, David Cook among others are the product of American Idol which is also a reality talent search in the USA.

With so many shows like these, it's no wonder that a lot of people enjoyed watching it. Who wouldn't? You will see all the action as soon-to-be-stars bare it all on television. It's better watching a scripted drama series, right?

My AI Bets

It's Wednesday again and of course Hubby and I will be watching the telecast of American Idol Season 8 in QTV 11. I just have to make sure that I can make it at home by 6pm.

Last year my bet was David Cook and I was right!

This year, I have two bets:

Allison Iraheta

Adam Lambert

Their first name starts with the letter A and they are both from Los Angeles, CA.
Let's see if I'm going to be right for this year...

Earth Day

Time to be environmentally aware.
Time to be earth friendly.
Time to save our planet! Ü

Cell Innovation

I still need to find out what happened to the result of my Pap smear exam and the status of the cervical polyps that was diagnosed by Dra. Joscon last march 31st. Due to holy week holidays and the fact that we are not in the city last weekend my follow-up consultation will be delayed for 2 weeks (I can't go this weekend since I have my period).

I'm praying that the polyps is treated by the medicine prescribed to me and that the result of the Pap smear will be normal. With a lot of diseases discovered every year (including all sorts of cancer), it's quite scary to think that any of us is a possible target. My current worry is the cervical cancer that's why I decided to consult an OB as to know the current status of my reproductive health (just to be sure and aware).

Good thing that technology keeps on evolving and there are a lot of innovations made in the past 10 years especially in medicine/medical field. For female, there's a new technology that can potentially help us treat diseases like heart problems, breast cancer, diabetes, stroke and vascular regeneration. How? Introducing C'elle technology that allows women to preserve their own menstrual stem cells that is found to be life-saving cells. When you think about it, it's kind of gross but if you view it on a different light we carry the best medicine ever to treat these deadly diseases that have become common reasons for the mortality rate of humans around the world. The company who discovered this technology offers the C'elle kit for only $299 (less $400 off the regular price). That's almost the same price of having a HPV vaccine. The thing is you can treat other diseases buy preserving the stem cells. Not just one disease but 5 and who knows maybe more in the coming years. This is the first time that I heard something good about our monthly period!

House Remodeling

My aunt will be coming back here in Manila by June in time for our Boracay vacation. Apart from that she's planning to fix the ceiling on her house in Cavite where my other aunt and her family is living together with my grandmother and younger brother. They started living in that house in 1987 and I've seen the way the house improved over the years up to this point when it needs a major fix.

Her initial plan was to repair the ceiling and make sure that the roof is rain-proof before the wet season then on her next visit, she will be changing the layout of the interior of the house by expanding the living room and making another bedroom for my uncle as long as her budget permits.

She's doing a research on how much it will cost her these days to hire contractors just like the Phoenix Remodeling service. Though there's an economic crisis going on, I have a gut feeling that the prices of construction and hardware supplies will still be higher compared before. I'd probably advise her to keep on saving if she wants to accomplish renovating the whole house because she will definitely spend to make it new again.

She's Got Talent!

I just watched this video from ReviewKOe's website and it really made me teary-eyed by watching her perform and hearing the comments from the judges. She's really an extra ordinary person on the inside! I'm sure her mother will be very proud of her :)

Britains Got Talent 2009 Susan Boyle (Singer) (HD) - video powered by Metacafe

Susan Boyle gave me goosebumps just like Charice! Totally magnificent!

My Lappy!

Coming over to my aunt's house in Cavite last weekend and fixing everything to setup the PCs and laptops are my second priorities. My very first was to see the laptop my aunt gaveto me! It is an HP Compaq Presario V6000. Though she used it for a year, the unit is in very good condition and almost brand new (knowing my aunt she is very careful with her things).
It's running on Windows XP Vista Basic which is new to me since I'm so much used to in XP. In a few days I'll get the hang of this OS.

It has 160GB of HD space and 2.5GB of RAM! Wooohooo! The chipset of the unit is Intel Core Duo so I have nothing to complain about this lappy except hubby since somehow there's a glitch between Warcraft (DOTA) and Windows Vista (after doing a research for hubby's sake). Good thing I don't play that game.

Got to buy the Meraki bag that I posted before in this blog. Next on the list will be the external HD.

Am I Ready to Buy A Home???

It's my dream to have a home that I can proudly say mine (or ours since I have hubby)...but not this time...maybe in five years time. We will make this dream come true, slowly but surely.

You Are Possibly Ready to Buy a Home

You may be ready to buy a home, but you probably need to do more research.

Are you really ready to settle down in one place and make a huge financial commitment?

You probably need more time to decide if buying a home is for you.

Crunch the numbers and look at a few open houses. You'll figure out whether buying a home is something you want right now.

Medicare for Seniors

How come that our government don't have this kind of medicare supplemental plans specifically for seniors like Australia and Canada government offers? My maternal grandmother's sister migrated to Australia in the mid-eighties and now she and her husband have medical expenses provided by the Australian government (luck for them). Same setup goes to the immigrants of Canada. That's why my grandma's sister visits Manila for a month or two so they can go back to Australia otherwise the benefits given to them by the government might be forfeited.

Here in Manila, the only thing that we can rely on for seniors are the Senior Citizen card for medicine, consultation, fare and purchases discounts. Then there's the government pension once they reached the age of retirement. It would be better if the government provided them with a drug plan similar to AARP Medicare Drug Plan.

How to apply to medicare part D will be the viable question to asked if in case a program benefiting the senior citizens will be implemented by the future president of our country. So far, the only city that I know that offers a lot of perks for its citizen whether senior or minor is Makati City which reminds me to avail the Yellow Card because from what I heard it is a huge help for medical expenses.

The Weekend that was....

----so tiresome not to mention the temperature that makes me sweat most of the time the whole day even just by simply sitting still.

My aunt bought a second hand Dell P370 workstation desktop care of my sister's company where she worked. They've been selling their 150 units to their employees and my sister had her name enlisted. Since I'm the only one (apart from hubby) who knows about the techie stuff on Dell computer (thanks for my TSR experience with Dell account) I was asked to go to my aunt's house in Dasmariñas Cavite to setup the unit and install the applications needed (no CDs installer where given together with the unit). Apart from setting up the Dell desktop, I have to install some software as well to my younger brother's laptop who happens to be Dell as well (it was a gift from my aunt, lucky him!). It was a tedious task since I have to download the Dell drivers and download some software for the PC. There are a couple of hardware and software compatibility issues that I have to work around in order to make the hardware work. Also, I have to download different versions of AVG because I'm not sure if its fate playing tricks on me but the 3 versions I've downloaded are not compatible with WinXP (which is truly outrageous since it says on the internet that it's compatible with XP).

On the process of doing a lot of stuff with the Dell desktop unit and the mini laptop of my brother sprawling on the floor, the heat of the temperature last weekend makes me want to snap on everyone that is on the house so they can all be quiet and stop fussing around with the things I've been doing. I'm so crabby yesterday and last Saturday. I even got myself a headache from worrying all about the software and hardware and the files that we have to transfer from one PC to another (which I haven't done yet).

Needless to say, I still have a lot of things to do within this week since my sister will be leaving soon for China. So it's up to me to fix everything.

Fetish About Light

I can sleep with or without a light but I preferred to have the light powered on. So, before I go to sleep I'd make sure that there is a light (not the kind of light that lits up the whole room) like from a torchieres or desk lamps because I don't want to fumble in the dark when I woke up early in the morning to get my way down to our kitchen.

Or another alternative of turning the lamps on is leaving the television on but minus the sound. Some people will find it hard to sleep with a light on but not me. Somehow, I find it reassuring if there's a faint light in our room. Good thing that hubby can sleep with that kind of setup because as far as I know, he doesn't want any form of light present when he sleeps.

Even in my grandma's house they too lit up a small desk lamp just to have a light if someone wants to go to the restroom in the middle of the night. Maybe I can give them floor lamps as a present when my aunt finally renovates the house. I'm sure my aunt will love that since she's very particular with the furniture and accessories inside the house.
