Hunting Homes

I wish I could do that at this time before the year ends but since hubby needs to find a job first then I'm looking forward for next year for this to happen. This is actually my dream even when I was still single, having my own house. I'm crossing my fingers that I will achieve it...soon :)

While browsing through the different websites that tackles about home, I saw a list of every Virginia home builders available. I think every state in US must have a list of respective home builders of their own but I got curious on how a new home Virginia would look like. It seems that they are more into a country approach and most of the houses are bigger which mean it should be situated in a big lot.

I wonder if the Richmond new homes have a combination of modern and country style type of house. Oh well, I bet there are other websites where I can get an idea and inspiration. For the meantime, I'll just have to hold on to my dream and think of ways to make it into a reality :)

My Verdict

Last night hubby and I watched the highly-anticipated movie Twilight at G4. As expected a lot of people went to watch it's first day of opening.

I had a hunch that a lot of girls/women will react to the movie while watching it and they surely did :) Let's just say that they let everybody in the cinema know their presence...hehehe. I find it funny and amusing but nevertheless that's the reason why the movie was such a hit.

Prior to watching the movie, I've read lots of reviews from different sources and they all have the same rant - the sequence of the scenes, the effects (speed of vampires), the houses that were used, the alteration of some scenes and script (I feel the same way but there's an explanation for all of it).

My verdict is a rate of 3.5 out of 5. I don't like the camera moving in circles during the forest and meadow scene. It made me dizzy. Also, the effects that was done to make the impression of an unbelievable "speed" was lacking but then they are working on a budget which makes it difficult for the director to make it smooth sailing like Superman...hehehe.

Good thing that the actors and actresses did a good job in portraying the characters in the book. Some say that it was supposed to be a love story but turns out as a comedy when you watched it (yeah, you will laugh on most of the scenes). Oh well, it's due to the fast pace approach of the director. Some scenes that are cheesy romantic were not included whereas in the book, it's very detailed. Can't blame Hardwicke for doing that since you have to squeeze a 500 pages in 2 hours so naturally the movie will not totally reflect what was written by the author. That was the same case with HP although they have an advantage in the special effects department.

Regardless, it was a good movie. I got entertained and of course I still want to watch it but this time it will be on DVD. My hubby on the other hand thought that the movie was pretty okay. He congratulated Rob and Kristen for their good acting skills. He didn't read the book yet but I encourage him to do so.

Hopefully the sequel, New Moon will have improvements. Obviously this time, Summit will splurge on giving them the budget that they need. By doing so, the second movie will make-up for the flaws of Twilight. Luckily, the director will chose the scenes needed more carefully for it's viewers. I'm pretty sure this time, they can pull it off well ;)

Thanksgiving

At 1pm in our time, it's officially a Thanksgiving holiday in the US. My recruiter counterparts already gave me a notice that both of them will be on vacation on Thursday and Friday (US time) and they will be back to check their email on Tuesday.

It's a known fact that Thanksgiving is given much importance in America compared to Xmas. Turns out that this federal holiday is known as the harvest festival which marks the time to give thanks for the harvest and express gratitude in general. It's also the time for them to bond with their families.
The star for this festive celebration is none other than the good 'ole turkey. That's why Thanksgiving is also called the Turkey Day. Side dishes for the turkey are mashed potatoes w/ gravy, sweet potatoes and sweet corn to name a few.

Happy Thanksgiving to all the peeps in US!

Music and MTV

I love music and when I was in high school and college, I'm very fond of watching MTV channel (MTV Asia to be exact).

Back then, the VJs were Mike, Jamie, Nadya and Gi then she was replaced by Donita.

Now, I'm not the avid viewer as I used to be. I'm more hooked into TV series and Ellen...hehehe. But one thing remains, I heart music and it will stays that way.

Holiday Specs

My sister and I finally agreed to share on purchasing a new eyeglass for my grandmother as our Xmas present. All we have to do is to let her come with us in the mall to have her eyes check and for her to choose the frame. I'm excited!

I saw the Holiday Glass Frames From Zenni Optical and just as I thought it will be in festive colors for Xmas - red, green, white and yellow. I wonder if she will like this particular frame:Otherwise, I can browse for other frames on the popular online eyeglasses shop and have it compiled for her to see. At least, she won't have to worry in deciding on what frames she'll be getting for her new specs once we were on the optical shop. She can select from the frames that I will be researching for her :)

My sister's boyfriend told us that a new specs cost Php 1,500-2,000. Not sure if the price applies until now. I wish we have the same $ 8 Complete Rx Eyeglasses offered by Zenni. Imagine, $8 convert it to pesos, that will be 400! Cheaper but stylish.

10 Smart Ways to Manage Your Money

Kudos to "Ang Pinaka" for coming up with this timely info for all the Filipinos. Even I myself learned from watching their last Sunday episode and I want to share it with you all and hopefully you can find it useful as well.

#10 Invest in jewels, antiques, arts, etc.
-> I dont' have expensive jewelries or arts to be honest. The only thing that is expensive that I'm wearing is our wedding band

#9 Invest in Pre-need Plans
-> I have one plan left. Originally, I have 2 plans but I decided to let go of the other one and have a refund instead. I'll probably get another one in the future when hubby finds a stable job.

#8 Invest in foreign currencies
-> No need to explain. It's self-explanatory

#7 Be an Entrepreneur
-> A lot of people are into this. Proof is the various online shops in multiply where I usually bought items for personal and as gifts. Even students are business minded nowadays.

#6 Invest in Real Estate
-> This is my ultimate dream... having our own house and lot. The value of a real estate keeps on getting higher as years passed so you have the option to sell it in the future in case you decided to migrate on other countries. The problem is it's tough to sell real estates esp with the economic crisis nowadays

#5 Invest in Stock Market
-> I'm planning to invest soon. Today, most of the stocks are in it's cheap rates but the risk is you'll never know if they will go up or continue to go down.

#4 Invest in Bonds
-> I don't have much info about this though I heard of it before. I forgot how they explain it on TV

#3 Bank Deposits (Savings, Time Deposits, etc)
-> Naturally, this is for keeping your money safe for the time being while you're not using it. That's why banks don't offer high interest for saving accounts. It's sole purpose is for you to save money and used it in the future.

#2 Mutual Funds
-> I heard about this last year. W@Wies are talking about this stuff and planning to attend a seminar. I was not able to attend though and I forgot how this one works but I'm interested to engage in this kind of investment too

#1 Debt Reduction
-> Which is the very first thing that we should all do before investing. As much as possible try to lessen the debts from loans, credit cards, etc. Otherwise you will surely loose control in your finances. And I'm starting to do little by little. My goal next year is to get rid one credit card

Mission Accomplished

Whew! DSL connection in my grandmother's house is up and running! Proof is the fact that I'm making this blog entry ;)

Yesterday night I back-up the files in the PC which only took 4 CDs and not all of it are full. Then I reinstall WinXp then the drivers for the hardware.

Today at 10:30am the technician from SmartBro came to setup the internet connection and also the LAN card. Turns out that the LAN card is disabled in BIOS and one PCI slot is not working. So the technician removed the modem card then put the LAN card on its slot. I apologize for the techie words.

So there, issue resolved! Hoepfully there will be no more troubles with the PC, LAN card and internet connection.

Next thing to do is to install the HP printer, MS Office, Acrobat Reader and Adobe Photoshop CS2.

Hubby and I will be going back to Makati at around 2pm today so I need to install everything back before we go.
Catch you all tomorrow! :)

Auto Shop for Repairs

Here in Manila the auto body shops city of industry is located in Banawe Avenue in Quezon City.

If you happen to go in that area, you will likely to see the different auto shops offering a wide selection of auto parts for sale. Of course they can provide repair as well if I'm not mistaken. I've been to this place just once and it happens to be late at night so I didn't get to see the stuff they are selling.

Compared to the authorized service center of different manufacturers, auto parts are relatively cheaper here. No wonder that most car owners prefer to drop by this place first to check out the shops.

Friendship Flowers

Thanks Shiela for this tag :)

Here are the rules for this tag:
  1. Copy the badge and put it on your blog,
  2. Link back who pass you this tag,
  3. Spread this tag to at least 7 or more bloggers who you think you are friend with.
And lovely are the blossoms
That are tended with great care,
By those who work unselfishly
To make the place more fair.
And, like the garden blossoms,
Friendship’s flower grows more sweet
When watched and tended carefully
By those we know and meet.
And, if the seed of friendship
Is planted deep and true
And watched with understanding,
Friendship’s flower will bloom for you.

Happy Weekend! Ü

A Yo-Yo Holiday

Xmas music fills the air... be it at home, office work and malls. 2 weeks ago, my aunt told me that she keeps on playing Christmas songs in her laptop and she's excited to come here in Manila next month to celebrate the festive holiday with us!

Keys to my Life

First three are absolutely true. The last part I'm not sure....but it's a possibility. I'm not a mind-reader =P

The Keys to Your Life

Anything good in your life comes from boldly confronting the darkness.

Illusions are dangerous, and you benefit from seeing the world as it truly is.

Anything bad in your life comes from other people trying to bring you down.

Others often see you as a threat, and there are some people who are jealous of all your strengths.

Off to Cavite

I made it coming to work before 7:30am today Ü I have to get out of the office at 4:30pm so me and hubby can head to Dasma Cavite and spend our weekend there.

Aside from the fact that it's been some time since I went there, I also have to reformat the PC to fix the problem with an internet connection. Tech support from Smart Bro told my sister last week that reinstallation of the OS is needed. Prior to this, we were told that the LAN card needs to be replaced by a different technician. That left me doubtful because they just replace it a few months back and it's not even a year and we need to replace it again?! We were actually requesting for an onsite tech to check the problem since troubleshooting over the phone will do no good. Nobody in my grandma's house is techy. Stubborn and incompetent tech support of SmartBro. They keep on insisting to troubleshoot first! Ugh! My aunt is so pissed off and by December she will finish the contract of their internet services and switch to another. Not sure which one it will be.

Since I'm the only one who knows more about computers, I need first to backup the files and do the reformat and installation of XP. Sigh!

At least it will be totally clean. No virus, no spyware, no malwares, etc. I just hope this will do the trick in order to have an internet connection even just for a couple of weeks.

Guide in Treadmills

I’ve started using one when I was enrolled in Fitness First. Since my program is for weight gain, I was given a 10-minute workout in one of the treadmills.

My sister on the other hand is the exact opposite of my program. She has to loose some pounds since she's a little bit overweight. Before she was thinking of having a treadmill of her own but we all know that kind of equipment is pretty pricey.

Guess, she'd better have to settle going to the gym or in the future when she can afford to have one, she can check different treadmill manufacturers and look for an affordable and durable one (like the one on the left which cost US$ 100).

After all, we want our money to be spent well.

Delifrance Treat

I got an email this morning from my ex-colleague. I was doubtful at first since it say's it's a freebie from Delifrance. Hmm...really???

Curiosity got the best of me so I decided to check the link and see for myself. Voila! Indeed it was a legit site and they are giving away free Almond Star Cookies (well that was the choice of the sender for me). I think it was a new product and this is their way of marketing it.
Apart from the cookies, there is another option which is the Chocolate Chip Almond Biscotti. You just have to select it as the treat to be given away to your friends.

Start spreading these newest delicacies from Delifrance. Be someone's Secret Santa! Ü

Btw, I redeem my treat in Delifrance Insular (Makati). All you have to do is register then a coupon will be emailed to you. You just have to print it out and look for a Delifrance crew whose wearing a Santa hat to get your free treat until; December 7, 2008 ;)

Digital Times

Today, it starting to feel like one. Almost the things we have now, be it at home, office, school, etc. are digitized. Let's take the obvious examples on how the things we love and owned back then have evolved.
One specific sample is our mobile phone. I started using an analog when I was in my sophomore year in college and I have to share it with my sister back then. A year after, Nokia and Motorola offers a wide range of mobile phones that is a far cry from the analog ones. Take for example the different walkman and camera mobile phones that we have now courtesy of Sony Ericsson, Nokia and Samsung. And now, we have touch phones and even a phone that can accomodate two different sims at the same time!Another example is the camera. I've used the bulky camera when I was in grade school. You have to used a film in order to get an output of a picture. But now, technology is so advance and fast that cameras don't need a film in order to take a picture. All we need is a memory card that will serves as the film and then we have the option to have it develop or download and save it on our personal computer or laptop. With the use of USB cable or card reader, you can view the pictures in its full size and glory. I think they also have cables where you can connect it to a TV and from there; you can have a slide show of the pictures in stored on the camera.
Lastly is the television. In my parent's home we have the CRT TV and the flat screen one. Before CRT TV is the in thing until flat screen came and conquer the hearts of everyone. Today, all I see in the appliances store are different sizes of LCD TV. Before it was pretty expensive but now, prices starts to get lower and be competitive with other brands.

It will be a matter of years for the things that we have now to be more high-tech and sophisticated. Let's wait and be surprise on what's in store for us in the future.

Coffee Break Ver 1.45

11 days to go and December will hit our calendars! I've accomplished 50% of my Christmas presents for godchildren and friends. 50% is for my family and the remaining godchildren which happens to be all boys.

When shopping for Christmas presents especially now with the ongoing financial crisis, there are two things that I consider:

(1) budget-friendly (cost)
(2) the gift is fit/right for the person

So far, it's easy to find gifts for the girls(female) compared to boys(male). Thus, I still haven't gotten any for my godsons. But I actually have some things in mind and I'm planning to purchase them on the next payday Ü

What a morning

I got at the office today at 8:30am. I was planning to be here by 7:30 or 8am so I can leave early but I'm stuck at our home longer than I expected.

I was preparing spaghetti for hubby when the fire in the stove went off. I have a feeling that we don't have a gas in the tank. I was in the middle then of cooking the pasta noodles.

Since I have no choice, I woke up hubby and asked him to detach the regulator/hose from the tank while I called the supplier. Luckily they are open considering it's 7:30am.

I was worried for the pasta noodles but hubby think of a solution buy transferring the noodles to the rice cooker :D

I have to hand it to him, it worked and the noodles were saved! Ahahahaha!

Luckily, the delivery of the gas tank took less than 10 mins. The gas tank that was used up lasted for 6-7 months. I hope the new one will last for that long as well ;)

Zoo Stuff

When visiting a zoo, the animal that I most wanted to see is the lion and tiger. They look like a big stuff toy that is furry.

Guess I've been watching too much animated films thinking that all the animals are tamed and domesticated...hehehe. If there are such kinds of lion and tiger, I wouldn't mind having them for a pet =P
